What to do in Manuel Antonio when it rains

From May to November it rains most afternoons in Manuel Antonio, and September and October can bring whole wet days. Rain rarely ruins a trip if you plan around it, and some tours are better in it.

How the rain works

The typical green-season day starts sunny and turns wet in the early afternoon. That means you lose the afternoon, not the day. The wettest months are September and October, when rain can last longer and the park sometimes closes for safety. See best time to visit.

Plan around it

  • Do the park at 7:00 am. You'll be back on the beach or at the hotel before the rain.
  • Put boat trips in the morning. Catamarans and mangrove trips are calmer early.
  • Keep afternoons flexible for a long lunch, the pool or a nap.
  • Save the night walk for the evening. Frogs love the wet; rainy nights are often the best for them.
